Use of Bodofa UN Brahma’s statue in BJP meeting draws anger in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: At a time when Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) issued appeals not to misuse Bodofa’s name for political purposes, the movable statue of Bodofa UN Brahma was used in the BJP worker’s meet at Green Field in Kokrajhar on Monday. The use of Bodofa’s statue in the dais of a political party meeting drew anger among the people in the meeting, especially the Bodos, as Bodofa is honoured with the highest respect and dignity.

Many Bodo people expressed unhappiness over the use of Bodofa’s statue in the dais of the BJP meeting in Kokrajhar saying that it hurt their sentiments as Bodofa was not involved with any political party but worked only for the upliftment of downtrodden communities. Many people felt that the BJP was trying to emotionally influence the people by using Bodofa’s statue in the public meeting. It is pertinent to mention that only ABSU uses the movable statue of Bodofa in their meetings.

 In a recent statement, the UNBT had appealed to all to refrain from giving political or politically controversial statements at Thulungapuri where Bodofa was laid to rest. The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT), established with the sacred aim of propagating the philosophy and ideals of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, expressed its deep gratitude to the people from all walks of life-scholars, political leaders, social activists, and citizens-who have been visiting Thulungapuru, the eternal resting place of Bodofa, to pay their heartfelt tributes but requested the visitors not to misuse Bodofa for any political purposes. In this regard, the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust had also made an earnest appeal to all esteemed visitors and political party leaders to refrain from making any political or politically controversial statements by misusing his name for political purposes.
