Kokrajhar: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday inaugurated the new Don Bosco College at Chapaguri in Chirang district on presence of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, ministers Chandan Brahma and Pramila Rani Brahma.

Chief Minister Sonowal said that in the 21st century in the wake of the development of science and technology and their multifarious manifestations, value-based education had become important and Don Bosco educational institutions would have to play a vital role in imparting value education to students.

Inaugurating Don Bosco College, the third of its kind in Assam after Diphu and Azara, at Chapaguri in Chirang district on Monday, Chief Minister Sonowal said that Don Bosco schools, which had expertise in the field of education for more than 100 years, would have to take the responsibility of rendering value education to students. He further said that in today’s world where there was cut-throat competition, students who had sound moral character could reach the last mile of success defeating all extraneous stimuli. Sonowal said that Don Bosco educational institutions, which had been spreading education among all sections of the people, especially among the underprivileged section, motivated by the philosophy of Saint John Bosco, had a good history of helping students to inculcate sound moral character in them.

Referring to his own school days which he pursued in Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh, Sonowal said that the moral lessons and value-based education he received from his school built a strong edifice of his life. Terming the inauguration of Don Bosco College at Chirang as a red-letter day, Sonowal said that the new college could churn the human resources of lower Assam areas and make them good citizens as well as good professionals. Stating about the Skill India, Digital India, Make in India and Stand up India programmes launched under the bold leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sonowal said that Don Bosco educational institutions should make good use of these programmes and come forward to educate human resources of the country and create a name in the educational landscape. Sonowal also sought the guidance and services of Don Bosco educational institutions to put India on a higher growth trajectory.

The programme, which was presided over by Father Thomas Pulloppillil, Bishop of Bongaigaon Diocese was attended, among others by Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Salesian Provincial Father Januarius S. Sangma, Father Alex Mathew, Principal of Don Bosco College, Chapaguri, Father Sebastian Mathew, Principal of Don Bosco School, Guwahati and a host of other dignitaries.
