DEMOW: Hobibul Ali (25), an inhabitant of 2 No Masoi Gaon, sustained injuries after a tanker caught fire on July 26.He was admitted in a hospital in Guwahati on July 27 but succumbed to his injuries on August 3.

Mohammad Yasin Ali, father of Hobibul Ali, had lodged an FIR in Sivasagar Police Station on August 6 but the culprits are yet to be apprehended. The AYM, ATASU, AASAA and ATTSA had jointly organized a press meet in Demow Inspection Bungalow (IB) on August 17 where they had demanded the Sivasagar Police to apprehend the culprits within 48 hours. After 48 hours passed, the culprits were not apprehended.

TheAsomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM), All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU), All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) and villagers jointly protested in DemowChariali in front of Demow Central market on Tuesday demanding to apprehend the culprits involved in the incident. They also demanded to uproot the illegal oil theft gang. The protesters shouted slogans against Assam Police.

Sumeet Kumar Handique, joint secretary of ATASU, Sivasagardistrict, told media persons that due to the negligence of the Investigating Officer, till date the culprits have not been apprehended. Jadab Gogoi, president of Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Central Committee,said that it has been almost a month but the police had not been able to apprehend the culprits and if the culprits are not apprehended then they would launch a protest programme.

Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sivasagarthrough the OC of Demow Police Station.
