Various organizations stage sit-in demanding restoration of Tangla Irrigation Division Office

TANGLA: Reiterating the demand of restoration of Tangla Irrigation Division Office to its original form, senior citizens, farmers, student leaders of All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), All Rabha Students' Union (ARSU), All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) along with members of Tangla Irrigation Contractors' Association staged a sit-in in front of Tangla HS playground along the Mangaldoi-Bhutiachang road at Tangla town in Udalguri district of Assam on Friday.

The protestors raised slogans in unison. Addressing the gathering, Tangla Anchalik AASU president Pranjal Deka said, "This decision of the government of limiting the jurisdiction of Tangla Irrigation Division Office and renaming it to Kalaigaon-Paneri Division will never be accepted and we have already moved the public representatives at Bodoland Territorial Council level and we are contemplating to move the State and Union governments demanding roll back of the cabinet decision and restoration of Tangla Irrigation Division to its original form."

President of Tangla Irrigation Contractors' Association, Dr. Hari Ram Das said, "We will continue our democratic protest until and unless the government restores the Tangla Irrigation Division office to its original form." Das further reiterated that the educated unemployed youths who had registered themselves as contractors, their livelihood had been threatened by the notification for restructuration of Irrigation Divisions.
