GUWAHATI: Shrinkhal Chaliha, the firebrand leader of the Veer Lachit Sena, demanded the Assam government to carry out an eviction drive against encroachers in historic Mayang in Morigaon.

The Veer Lachit Sena leader also warned that they will evict the encroachers from the government land in Mayang if the government does not take necessary actions. Reminding the government that the Veer Lachit Sena activists carried out an eviction drive in DoomDooma Chaliha said, "We demand the government to launch an eviction drive in Mayang. If they do not want to evict the encroachers, we will do it. Then, the government will take all the responsibilities if any untoward situation arises".

Chaliha also warned the people who tried to increase influence and suppression upon the indigenous populace of the state. Without taking the name of any person or organization he said, "We have heard that some said if they stop farming the people of Assam will starve. I want to say to them we do not need anyone's help or assistance. We could survive."

He urged the government to provide agricultural machinery to the indigenous farmers so that they could do farming scientifically.

On the other hand, Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha demanded the Assam government to immediately arrest Congress Baghbar constituency MLA Sherman Ali for allegedly insulting the martyrs. While speaking to reporters at the Jorhat Press Club Shrinkhal Chaliha said that Congress Baghbar constituency MLA Sherman Ali has to kneel down and should make an apology for his derogatory comment against the martyrs.
