Verdict after 20 years, 20 sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000 Chirang Murder Case

Chirang: The District Judicial Court of Chirang recently sentenced Life Imprisonment to all 20 men, accused in a brutal murder incident.

The 20 men were convicted for murdering 4 member of a family including a baby of one and a half years old.

As per reports, the incident took place on December 2, 2000, where Jarina Khatun, Samrat Begum, Surmaan Ali and Nur Mohammad were killed and their residence at Baikhungaon under Dhaligaon police station in Chirang district was set on fire by the accused.

Meanwhile, sources informed that the murder incident was a part of a dispute between two families.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Dhaligaon police (Case No 83/2000) by one Nazrul Haque who was reportedly not present at home during the murder incident.

While pronouncing the verdict, District Judicial Court Judge, Dibyajyoti Mahanta convicted all the 20 accused under section 302/436/147/148/448 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The convicted accused were identified as Ikabur Mondol (48), Nayeb Ali (49), Abdul Gaffar (56), Muzibur Rahman (54), Ayet Mondol (46), Ahat Ali (44), Raham Ali (45), Riyajuddin Ali Ahmed (49), Rahmat Ali (48), Sammat Ali (38), Samsul Ali (32), Iman Ali Mondol (61), Anwar Ali Sikdar (45), Amjad Ali Mondol (70), Anwar Ali Mondol (35), Abdul Rahim Mondol (41), Wajed Ali Mondol (57), Nabab Ali Mondol (56), Tahar Ali Mondol (35), Satek Ali Mondol (47).

The convicts can appeal in higher courts against the judgment, informed public prosecutor Daniel Das.

Later, the convicts were taken to Kokrajhar jail by a bus from the Chirang district court at Kajalgaon.
