Veteran Journalist Ranendra Bijoy Goswami passes away in B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati

Tezpur: Veteran Journalist and member of Sonitpur Press Club, Ranendra Bijoy Goswami (Rana) passed away after a prolonged illness on Sunday. He breathed his last in B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati.

Goswami, an inhabitant of Tezpur Dhanua Nagar area, was suffering from prolonged illness and was under treatment. He was 58. Goswami leaves behind his wife Binu Goswami, family members and a host of well-wishers. He was the son of Professor Suren Goswami and Chmpa Mahanta Goswami. Also, he was the grandson of Naren Goswami who was a freedom fighter and Xatradhikar of Murari Xatra.

He was born in Bihaguri Rangamati of Tezpur town in 1961 and did his graduation in Science from Darrang College and metallurgical engineering from (REC) Warangal, Telengan. Many organizations, including Baan Theatre, Tezpur Xahitya Xabha, Sonitpur Journalist Union, All Assam Journalist Union, teachers’ union of Darrang College, Ranjen Borthakur, chairman of Assam Text Book Publication, and Rituparna Sarma, vice-chairman of Amtron, paid rich tribute to him.

A condolence meeting was held at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhavan by Sonitpur Press Club on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Barlin Saikia, in-charge president of Sonitpur Press Club, along with Dr. Bhupen Saikia, president of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, among others.
