TEZPUR: 5 ASSAM BN NCC, Group HQs (Tezpur) under the aegis of NCC DTE NER organized NCC 'Vijay Shrankhala' on Saturday at the Council Hall of Tezpur University to felicitate the next of kin of Martyrs and war veteran of 1971 war with the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, Professor Vinod Kumar Jain as the chief guest. NCC Vijay Shrankhala event organized as part of 75 other events across the country would bring awareness among the population about the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs and also showcase cultural diversity.

The event commenced with the arrival of the next of kin of the martyrs and war veterans of 1971 who were welcomed with the traditional Assamese gamusa by the NCC cadets. The NCC cadets of the unit performed songs, poem presentations and also narrated the historical war situations in which the braves participated in the 1971 war.

The aim of NCC Vijay Shrankhala is to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1971 war to commemorate the 50 years of India's victory of 1971 war coinciding with the 75th anniversary of India's independence. NCC is felicitating the martyrs of 1971 war at 75 different locations across India as part of the 'Vijay Shrankhala and Sanskriti ka Mahasangam' mega event from November 28 to December 19. The event was launched on the NCC Day on November 28.

The event was attended by NCC cadets, officers and personnel of the unit and the Group HQ (Tezpur), faculty and students of the university. The chief guest felicitated the war veteran with presents and a memento. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest expressed his deep respect and honour of the sacrifice made by the armed forces and exhorted the cadets to shoulder the responsibility of the future of the nation and narrated his nostalgic memories of the times of the war. Col Saniv Kumar, SC, Group Cdr, NCC Gp HQs (Tezpur Gp) opened the event by addressing the aim of the event and its importance towards the awareness and respect by the citizens for its martyrs.
