Village Headman Arrested in Connection with Flipkart Robbery at Udalguri

MANGALDAI: Mangaldai Police on Tuesday arrested one more person, this time, a village headman (gaon burha), in connection with the sensational robbery in the distribution centre of Flipkart at ward no 8. The police also managed to recover Rs 2,68,500 from the possession of the arrested village headman of Kuhiarkuchi village under Khoirabari police station in Udalguri district.

According to Officer-in-charge of Mangaldai Police Station Inspector Niranjan Baruah, the accused village headman, Dan Chandra Ramchiary had concealed the cash in a household drain. With this recovery, the total recovery amount has increased to Rs 7,18,500. Prior to this, the police on Thursday night arrested two employees of the establishment, identified as Sanjib Bhuya of Santipara and Jayanta Ghatowal of No.1 Bezpara village, both under Mangaldai police station, and recovered a stolen amount of Rs 4.50 lakh kept separately by both the accused youths.

However, the police are yet to recover the remaining amount of Rs 14.40 lakh out of the total looted amount of around Rs 21.59 lakh. Three other accused, including the mastermind of the robbery, Jogesh Deka and terminated staff of the unit are reportedly absconding. The police have already registered a case (No. 836 /2019) U/S 457 /380 IPC in Mangaldai Police Station in connection with the sensational robbery which took place on the night of October 7 during Durga Puja celebration.
