Villagers launch ‘road banao’ programme in Dima Hasao

Haflong, May 19: As the department concerned failed to repair the approach road of N Leikul village, 9 km from Haflong, the villagers launched a 'road banao' programme on their own on Friday.

Though N Leikul, located in the lap of Boral Mountain, and is one of the most visited villages by a number of tourists from different places, yet the approach road has not been repaired despite repeated pleas to N C Hills Autonomous Council by the villagers.

As the villagers' pleas fell on deaf ears, the villagers decided to launch the 'road banao' programme and accordingly, they started repair work of the road.

Luna Singson, who led the programme, said, "The NHAI has been constructing the East-West corridor just below the village following which the approach road to the village has been damaged. The villagers had approached the NHAI officials at Haflong long back but the NHAI authority has remained silent in this regard till date. This indifferent attitude of the NHAI and also the department concerned has compelled the villagers to take this step."
