Villagers of Bebejiya stages protest against Oil and Natural Gas Corporation

SARUPATHAR: The villagers of Bebejiya in Baroghariya under Dhansiri subdivision staged a road blockade recently.

According to the villagers of Bebejiya village, the ONGC had been carrying on its activities at Bebejiya village in Baroghariya for a long time. The ONGC was taking out crude oil and gas from Bebejiya village but it had allegedly not taken up any corporate social responsibility activities for the development of the area. The protesters demanded that the pipeline set up at Bebejiya village should be withdrawn immediately. The protesters also demanded that ONGC should stop exploration work in the village and its workers should leave the place immediately.

Meanwhile, in a related development, around 500 weavers from the village staged a protest and sought repair of the roads which had become deplorable due to plying of ONGC vehicles.

On the other hand, around 500 villagers blocked a road and alleged that water on the streets was contaminated and smelt of petrol, said police sources. Later, the police team and the ONGC officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters.
