GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised for the unfortunate death of Dibrugarh animal activist Vineet Bagaria infront of the deceased family and well wishers.

Speaking to the media the CM said, "I apologises to the entire state for the recent death of Vineet Bagaria and ashamed to see the sorry state of the Police Department that after our strict direction also, the Dibrugarh police was unable to deliver my messages."

"Today, the administration of Dibrugarh has failed and accept my guilt and sorry for Vineet Bagaria's family," he added.

Taking to his Twitter handle CM wrote,. "I am saddened by the tragic death of Vineet Bagaria, the son of Kailash Bagaria, a resident of Shanimandir Path, Dibrugarh. In this time of grief, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wish eternal peace to the departed soul."

A day after the shocking suicide of Vineet Bagaria, a 32-year-old prominent animal rights activist in Dibrugarh, the police on Friday arrested two persons on charge of abetting the suicide.

A team of Dibrugarh police arrested the two accused - Baidullah Khan and Nishant Sharma- from Lumding. Two more accused, Sanjay Sarma and Izaz Khan are still absconding.

On Thursday, Vineet Bagaria hung himself to death at his residence at the Shani Mandir road in Dibrugarh. His family members took him to hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.

The public staged protest in front of Dibrugarh police station for an hour demanding capital punishment of the culprits. The public raised slogans and demanded suspension of Dibrugarh police station officer in-charge.
