DHUBRI: Vision screening of students by Dr Panna Lal Oswal Memorial Committee (DPLOMC) was conducted in Sankardev Sishu Niketan School in Satrasal border village of Dhubri district recently. Altogether, 268 students from Class Ankur-Mukul to Class X of the school went for eye screening conducted by two ophthalmologists and assisted by the members of Dhubri Lions Club, including its secretary Sanjay Kumar Sethia. Out of the total students screened, 15 students suffer from (-) power problems and need immediate attention for correction of poor vision.

Secretary general of DPLOMC, Bimal Oswal expressed concern over the prevailing eye sight problems among the students. “School children hardly understand about their poor eye sight as they think that what they see is natural vision, but the facts are otherwise. We, in our 20 years’ of experience of eye screening among the students, found that nearly 10 per cent students suffer from poor vision and this is detected at a later stage when correction of poor vision becomes very difficult,” Oswal said.

DPLOMC wanted this poor vision problem among the students to be detected at the initial stage, so it started the mission of eye screening in the year of 2000 and this still cotinues, Oswal added.

Earlier, a meeting organized by the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) was presided over by the vice-president, Bablu Kumar Roy. At the end of the programme, DPLOMC donated two large size dustbins ,15 waste bins and books for the school library, while all the students were given away a gift packet each.
