Waste management proving tough for Dibrugarh Municipality

Dibrugarh: Despite having been flagged and reported in the past, the municipality dustbin in front of the Old Dibrugarh Railway Station continues to be a source of pollution and consternation for the locals. The people living in the vicinity have thus far brought up the matter many times before the authority concerned, but to no avail. All kinds of waste, both solid and liquid, are dumped in the dustbin, thereby turning it into breeding ground for germ-carrying flies. Besides the pollution aspect attached to it, the site of the dustbin also runs counterproductive to the effort of attracting more number of tourists to the historic town. No tourist will like to encounter such filthy site right after alighting from the train!

Other than that, the placement of the dustbin is wrong from the point of view of road safety. Placed alongside a turning, it is fraught with danger for the commuters coming from the side of Mazar Chariali. Dibrugarh Municipality has no doubt started showing a strong sense of commitment in the sphere of waste management of late.
