Water Resources Contractors’ Association protests against member

DHUBRI: Dhubri District Water Resources Contractors’ Association (DDWRCA) staged sit-in for four hours in front of the residence of the disgruntled member who went against the association’s resolutions, at Golokganj town of Dhubri district on Friday.

The disgruntled contractor, Debasish Sengupta (Bappi), who defied the resolution of the association not to quote below the rate approved by DDWRCA, allegedly got the work of SOPD under FDR in Binnachera in Golokganj of Dhubri district by quoting the less rate.

Golokganj police arrested the protesters but later released them after 2 PM on that day. Talking to The Sentinel, president (in-charge) of DDWRCA, Biswajit Kalita said that some opportunist contractors quote less rate to get work while depriving other contractors.

“Many contractors are engaged in this profession and are supporting their families by what they earn from such work. But will they not be affected if opportunist contractors down play the resolution of the association to not quote the less rate,” Kalita said.

The secretary of DDWRCA, Ganesh Choudhry, while strongly condemning the act of betrayal, appealed to other contractors to withdraw the tenders if they have quoted a less rate and warned a section of contractors to refrain from quoting a less rate in future. The DDWRCA has threatened to intensify agitation if the trend of quoting less rate is not stopped immediately.
