“Went to Assamese School, Don't know English, Hindi very well': Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, responded to a Twitter user who called him a "copy-paste CM" on Tuesday. A video with the description "Presenting the CM of Assam who can't even write a paragraph in a visitor's book without copying" has been posted by the user. 

Sarma claimed to have attended an Assamese medium school. As a Twitter user ridiculed him for allegedly duplicating words to write in a visitor's book, he firmly admitted about his lack of proficiency in the two languages and his efforts to acquire them. 

“I went to an Assamese medium school and am trying my best to learn Hindi and English in my own humble way. I must admit that I do not know English and Hindi very well, and I have no hesitation in admitting it,” wrote Sarma on Twitter.

The BJP leader was praised by many commenters for his "solid" response and humility.

“First time seen CM Himanta Sarma to be so courageous to accept his weakness in public. One should actually appreciate his desire to learn which will give him never ending 'Strength'. Hatts Off !,” said a user. 

While another twitter user wrote, “Language shouldn't be the barrier anywhere... we should feel free to write in any language we are fully comfortable with.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that he would pay a visit as soon as he receives a "formal letter," from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who publicly asked his Assam counterpart to stop by his residence in Delhi for a cup of tea and lunch. 

"He has invited me to lunch. I'll go to lunch as soon as I get an official letter," Sarma remarked to the reporters in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka, a town known for its temples. Sarma travelled to Dwarka to take part in the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board's Shree Krishna-Rukmini Vivah Satkar Samaroh, which marked the conclusion of the five-day Madhavpur cultural fair. 

"I'll go talk to him and find out why he lies so much and where he learned the craft. I'd meet him for sure to ask him this. I'm still awaiting his official letter, though.”  Sarma continued.
