
GUWAHATI: In a recent incident of animal cruelty in the Biswanath district of Assam, a group of men allegedly killed a wild buffalo strayed from the world famous Kaziranga National Park of Assam.
On Tuesday 22 March, the buffalo strayed out from the area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve as informed by police and forest team.
According to sources, the group of men killed the buffalo for consumption purposes, further, the initial investigation also claimed that the buffalo was slaughtered for its meat.
Notably, the Biswanath Wildlife Division thereby launched an operation in association with the police officials to detain the culprits in connection with the poaching of wild buffalo.
Throughout the detailed investigation by the forest department headed by Iqbal Hussian along with police, one accused has been detained from the Balidubi region of the district.
The accused has been identified as Rahmat Ali from whom the team of officials found the skin and body of the buffalo slaughtered to death.
According to the preliminary inquiry over the incident, the buffalo was hit by a tractor initially and then it was left injured following the accident.
Taking advantage of the situation a group of men took the injured buffalo and slaughtered to consume the meat. The tractor that was used to hit the animal was recovered and seized by police following the operation.
However, the main accused behind the buffalo killing in Biswanath identified as Hazmat Ali is not yet arrested as he is currently on run escaping from the police for committing the crime.
Meanwhile, the operation continues to find and nab all the accused related to the illegal killing of the wile buffalo and for the crime they committed showing animal cruelty.
