Wild elephant electrocuted in Baksa district; Carcass recovered

BAKSA: A wild elephant was electrocuted at Dawraijhar village near Bogamati picnic spot along the Indo-Bhutan Border in the district of Baksa.

In search of food, a herd of wild elephants ventured out of the Bornodi Forest Reserve of Baksa and strayed towards the nearby villages. According to local people, it is suspected that at night a wild elephant separated from the herd and entered the village Dawraijhar and created terror. When the wild elephant tried to eat tree leaves, it came in contact with a high-volt electric wire passing over the tree and was electrocuted.

On Monday morning, local people found the carcass lying on the road of Dawrijhar village and informed Nagrijuli Police Outpost and Tamulpur Forest Range Office. A team of Nagrijuli police led by ASI Prafull Brahma and a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass. Later, forest officials arranged for the post-mortem of the wild elephant and buried it. Police and forest officials are investigating the matter for more information.
