Tamulpur: A lone wild elephant named Laden entered the Uria (Udia) Line of Nagrijuli Tea Estate on Saturday night and created terror. When Laden appeared inside the Uria (Udia) line of Nagrijuli Tea Estate, people left their houses and fled to secure places. The wild elephant broke down the houses of Anjana Sona, Basanta Tanti, Jayanta Tanti Gyandoi Tanti, Rajkumari Loha, Bharat Bagh, Abhi Tanti and Bhaidi Mahanand. The wild elephant also ate all the paddy and destroyed the household goods and left at dawn.
On Sunday morning, forest officials and Nikhil Singha, in-charge of Nagrijuli police outpost, with a police team rushed to the spot. An awareness meeting was also held at Nagrijuli police outpost premises on Saturday evening where DFO Bhabesh Ch. Das and Ranger Keshab Brahma addressed the local people and some organizations, promising to take necessary action to control the havoc of the wild elephant.
The forest department also distributed high power torch lights and firecrackers among the villagers to chase away the wild elephant. DFO Das also urged villagers to take help of forests officials when wild elephants enter a village.
