RANGAPARA: Though 'human-elephant conflict' is no longer a new phenomenon for the people of some particular belts in the Sonitpur district, yet the rapid growth of the problem has presently become a major concern in the Chariduar area.

As per sources, a herd of wild elephants coming out of the Balipara reserve forest for fodder and habitat problems caused extensive damage in the Dharikati village of the Chariduar area. The wild pachyderms' herd demolished the kitchen used for cooking midday meals in the Dharikati ME School. The school authority and residents are concerned over the matter as it happened just before the Gunotsav.
