TANGLA: Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Naba Kumar Sarania, who heads the Gana Suraksha Party(GSP), exuded confidence that the independent candidates backed by his party would sweep the polls winning more than 25 seats and affirmed that his party’s four-point agenda would be advocating for the land rights of the non-Bodos, equal representation of the people belonging to the diverse ethnic communities in government jobs, exploring the tourism potential of the Bodo belt and ensuring ST status to Koch-Rajbongshis, Adivasis and other communities eligible for the tribal status.

Accompanied by an elephant, horse and supporters of GSP, Naba Sarania along with Dipak Boro, the independent candidate of Khoirabari BTC constituency who is backed by GSP, filed the nomination at Bhergaon in Udalguri on Tuesday.

“I am not only confident but firmly believe that the people of the Bodo belt, who have been curtailed of their due land rights and are not equally represented in government jobs, will vote for us. Both Bodos and non-Bodo people of Udalguri district are the least represented in government jobs in comparison to the other three districts -Kokrajhar, Chirang, and Baksa. If voted to power, our party will ensure equal growth and development of every community, be it Bodos or non-Bodos,” Sarania said.

GSP leader Hema Prabha Devi said, “I was born and brought up in Bhergaon of Udalguri and though I migrated to Darrang, I am in the Bodo belt fighting for ensuring the rights of my people whose basic land rights have been curtailed by the ruling dispensation. If our party is voted to power, we will explore all the opportunities to provide employment to the educated youths of the region. The region has abundant potential in tourism as the district borders the mesmerizing Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh.”
