Women take part in 'Mahilar Garjan' against CAA at Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Jatiya Mahila Parishad (JMP), Doomdooma Regional Committee, a women wing of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), a protest meeting 'Mahilar Garjan' (women's uproar) to demand scrapping of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment)Act, 2019 was organized at Doomdooma on Thursday where about 1,000 women of Doomdooma town and surrounding areas took part.
The women activists first assembled at Gandhi Chowk wearing black dresses as a mark of protest against C (A)A and from there a procession was taken out along the main thoroughfares of the town. While marching ahead with placards in their hands, the women shouted slogans. Several speakers, including noted poet Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury, AJYCP Tinsukia District Committee president Surajit Moran and office bearers of various branches of JMP addressed the gathering. In their speeches, the speakers exhorted the women to be prepared for a long-drawn against the CAA.
