JAGIROAD: Forest officials at Kurhori village under Dharamtul forest office allegedly shot dead a wood cutter on Tuesday evening.

The wood cutter was identified as Borsingh Tisu of Kuthori Karbi village. In the firing, another wood cutter, Rajib Chingna was severely injured. Sources said that the deceased wood cutter along with some others went to Sonaikuchi reserve forest in search of firewood where they met some forest officials.

The victim's family members alleged that they had taken verbal permission for firewood cutting in the reserve forest but the forest officials, without knowing the fact, shot dead one. They also alleged that the officials could have warned them or booked them. The irate villagers later gheraoed the forest office at Kuthori and set it ablaze. Investigation is on.
