HAFLONG: Aiming at the promotion and preservation traditional dances, songs, and musical instruments, a 15-day workshop-cum-training on Jeme traditional dances — ‘Helim Kechew’ and ‘Heremidalim’ with drum beat — was inaugurated by Sanjay Jidung, Joint Director, Cultural and Publicity Centre, Dima Hasao at Mpuilo Cultural Hall Boro here on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by Sanjay Jidung, Joint Director, Cultural and Publicity Centre, Dima Hasao as the chief guests while P Jeme, Cultural Development Officer, M. Jeme, Haraka Association; and Dr Nirmal Sing attended as the guests of honour along with instructors and guardians of the students.
The 15-day workshop-cum-training under Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana was organized by the Cultural Centre Haflong, Dima Hasao, in collaboration with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam.
P Jeme, Cultural Development Officer explained the aims and objectives of the workshop also informed that all the tribes living in Dima Hasao would be provided with such workshop and training phase wise.
Chief Guest Jidung stressed on the importance of preservation and promotion traditional dance, music and the instruments because now a day most of the people forget their tradition and culture due to lack of practice. Earlier all the guest were felicitated with the gamosa.
