TEZPUR: India Data Portal (IDP) workshop from the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) held a workshop on 'Using open data for creating and presenting news stories' in Tezpur on Tuesday. The workshop was conducted by the India Data Portal (IDP) in collaboration with the GPC, wherein media persons of Tezpur participated.
The workshop focused on using data in journalism, and how to present data through attractive visualizations using www.indiadataportal.com. The sessions covered familiarization with the IDP, which hosts a wide range of processed and documented datasets from Central and state public agencies and government departments. It also covered high frequency indicators launched during COVID-19 to track the health of the Indian economy under IndiaPulse@ISB initiative. The IDP is an initiative to enhance transparency in governance, and citizens' right to access and use public data related to significant aspects of policy making.
Anshi Rajkhowa, outreach coordinator, BIPP, ISB said that the Bharti Institute of Public Policy aims to lead education and research in the domain of public policy. The institute works on policy challenges across diverse domains, primarily agriculture and food, environment, education, finance, governance and digital identity. Anshi further said that India Data Portal aims to be the digital data diary for journalists, a one-point access for all kinds of data sourced from different government ministries.
During the power presentation, Amrita Chakraborty, Project Coordinator, BIPP, ISB, said that the portal contains a data repository with processed and documented public datasets on related themes. She added that the use of IDP helps journalists, researchers, public policy makers and academicians to access, interact with, and visualize data related to agriculture, financial inclusion and rural development, in six Indian languages – Hindi, Bengali, English, Marathi, Odia and Telugu.
