SIVASAGAR: A one-day workshop on climate change and its relevance to the State of Assam was organized at Sibsagar Commerce College by the Department of Accounting and Finance, where Associate Professor of Law, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi, Dr Subhadipta Sarkar was present as a resource person.

Dr Sarkar's area of interest includes Human Rights, Disaster Management and International Refugee Law. He has recently authored a book titled Disaster Management and Protection of Human Rights in India.

In his deliberation, Dr Sarkar spoke about how climate change is affecting us. India being close to the equator has seen high rises in the sea-levels. Irreversible impacts with increasing heat waves, droughts, erratic rainfall are all impacts of the changes in climate which is caused by the irresponsible behavior of the humans. Some of the vulnerabilities of Assam such as low per capita income, agricultural sensitivity, lack of alternatives etc. are additional factors which directly or indirectly effect the environment. He concluded by saying, "Global climate change is happening and there is no way we can stop it but what we can do on our part is proper planning."
