KOKRAJHAR: A workshop on the conservation of the endangered species of golden langur was held by the department of Forest, BTC in association with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) at Cygnet, Chapaguri in Chirang District on Tuesday. The workshop was addressed by Chief of BTC Pramod Boro and EM of Forest Ranjit Basumatary.
Pramod Boro said that the consultative workshop on the conservation of golden langurs was organized by the Government of BTR in association with the Wildlife Trust of India to strengthen the conservation efforts and protect this endangered species for future generations. He said, “The golden langur is an icon of BTR, and we are committed to ensuring that this majestic primate has a thriving and secure habitat in our wilds.” He also said that the council government had been taking necessary initiatives to protect and conserve the natural resources and wildlife in BTC for which Bodoland Green Mission was launched to recover green forests, two National Parks were declared, and forest acts implemented in BTC.
EM of Forest Ranjit Basumatary said that the consultative workshop on golden langur conservation at Sygnet in Chirang was an opportunity to engage with the renowned scientists from across India and representatives from Bhutan, all working together towards a common goal. He thanked the Chief of BTC Pramod Boro for attending the workshop and sharing his insightful thoughts in the discussion. He called upon all to protect and conserve the majestic golden langurs of BTC.
It may be mentioned that the rare golden langur is found mainly at Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary near Kokrajhar and Ultani Reserve Forest under Haltugaon Forest Division in Kokrajhar District. The Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary in Kokrajhar covers an area of 45.568 square kilometers where the famous Baokhungri and Dangdufur hills are situated. This protected area is situated in the Kokrajhar District and parts of Dhubri District in Assam.
