Workshop on Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act held at DHSK Law College

Dibrugarh: A one-day workshop on Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 was held at DHSK Law College on Thursday by Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) in association with District Transport Officer (DTO).

The principal of DHSK Law College, Dr. Purnima Dowerah Saikia welcomed all resource persons and stated the objective of the meeting. DTO Sadananda Gogoi gave a power-point presentation on the digitization process with respect to the application of license, registration of vehicles and the like, and said that one could avoid paperwork with regard to such things by installing a them-Parivahan app. He also gave an account of the penalty fee for various offenses under the Act. Gogoi advised everyone to register on the them-Parivahan app and store a digital copy of important documents like license and registration card therein to save the pain of carrying the hard copies of those documents everywhere.

President of DHSK Law College Management Committee, I. Ahmed spoke on accidents and their impact on society. He said that although the invention of the wheel had once revolutionized human progress, it was fast turning into a curse in the 21st century. He said that in the last 10 years, the number of accidents had doubled in India, whereas it had dropped in China. Highlighting the socio-economic impact of road accidents, he sheds light on the quantum of loss suffered by the country across different sectors due to accidents. Ahmed pointed out some of the most important causes of accidents, which included sleep deprivation, consumption of alcohol, poor roads, and violation of traffic rules. He appealed to everyone to follow the provisions of the Act.
