DHUBRI: Indian Ethno Library Society (IELS) organized a workshop on Sanchipat manuscript and heritage conservation at Madhupur Xatra recently. IELS organized a national-level workshop on Sanchipat manuscript and heritage conservation at Madhupur Xatra of Coochbehar district in the presence of the representatives of various xatra institutions of Assam and West Bengal.

The workshop was inaugurated by the xatradhikar of Madhupur Xatra, Lakhikanta Mahanta while convener of IELS, Dr Hari Charan Das modulated the workshop and explained about the Sanchipat and spoke at a length on the importance of its conservation.

"Sanchipat manuscripts are not only the heritage of Assam or India but of the world, so its conservation is not only limited to its protection but in this way we are making an effort towards the protection and preservation of our history, heritage, culture and traditions. This is our valuable asset and we all should come forward and work for its protection and conservation," Dr. Das added.

Assistant Professor of Pragjyotish College, Dr Parashmoni Das, representative of Hati Xatra of Sualkuchi, Akhil Baisya, Xatradhikar of Haripur Xatra, Akhil Sutradhar, the Deka Xatriya of Madhupur Xatra of West Bengal, representatives of Betbari Namghar of Sivasagar, Pitambar Rai, Khagen Gohain and many others participated in the workshop and took part in the deliberation.

Kene Ase Madhupur ? (How is Madhupur), a book on Madhupur Xatra, edited by Madhava Deva Mahanta, the Dharmacharya of Madhupur Xatra was also released in the function. At the same time, tithi of Govinda Atoi was celebrated in the Xatra where hundreds of devotees from Assam and West Bengal took part.
