Workshop on Tai language concludes

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Purbanchal Tai Xahitya Xabha (PTXX), Tinsukia District Committee and in association with its women cell, a month-long workshop on Tai language was organized from May 21 to June 20 on virtual mode.

The workshop was inaugurated on May 21 by Dr Ratna Gopal Gogoi, assistant secretary, PTXX, Central Committee while the valedictory function was held on June 20 where Chao Puspadhar Saikia, general secretary, PTXX Central Committee, attended as chief guest. In his speech, Chao Puspadhar Saikia appreciated the role played by the president, PTXX, Dr Dayananda Borgohain in giving a dynamic shape to the organization and in being instrumental in bringing Rs 1 crore for it from the corpus fund that was allotted to 21 ethnic organizations of the State by the government. In the meanwhile, it took steps to send 10 research scholars to foreign countries, to prepare text books and give appointment to teachers to teach Tai language.

In the workshop, altogether 130 participants from eight districts - Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideu, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Viswanath - took part. Medini Madhab Mahan of Dibrugarh University (DU), Principal Babul Phukan, Dharitri Gogoi of Central Tai Academy, Lakshman Baruah, Padmeswar Buragohain, Pallabi Chirring of Sadiya and Rijumoni Konwar of Digboi attended as resource persons. In the valedictory function, three participants who were adjudged first, second and third were awarded cash prizes while the rest were given certificates of participation.
