Workshop on ‘Vermicompost for Green Livelihood’ organized

As part of its continuous initiatives for quality enhancement and educational innovations, a one-day workshop on “Vermicompost for Green Livelihood” was organized by IQAC, Gargaon College in collaboration with Gargaon College Science Forum, Gargaon College Teachers Unit, Gargaon College Employees Association and NSS Unit at the college premises recently.

SIVASAGAR: As part of its continuous initiatives for quality enhancement and educational innovations, a one-day workshop on “Vermicompost for Green Livelihood” was organized by IQAC, Gargaon College in collaboration with Gargaon College Science Forum, Gargaon College Teachers Unit, Gargaon College Employees Association and NSS Unit at the college premises recently.

Dr Dimbeswar Das, Assistant Professor of the department of Botany, Gargaon College, who acted as the resource person, elucidated the procedure of vermicomposting in detail. He also underscored the importance of vermicomposting in agricultural production and the economic potential of this mode of organic farming. Further, Dr Das advised the students to initiate the process of vermicomposting at the household level itself.

Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, eminent academician and Principal of the college lauded the initiative taken by the IQAC of the college to organize such workshops which shall go a long way in teaching students about sustainability and providing them with hands-on learning experience. The programme was also graced by Dr Rina Handique, Vice Principal of the college, Dr Ranjana Gogoi, Head and Associate Professor of the department of Statistics, Dilip Deka, Head and Associate Professor of the department of Geography, Dr Surajit Saikia, IQAC Coordinator Dr Arandau Narzary, Assistant Professor of the deptt. of Chemistry, Nilutpal Chutia, Ankika Dutta, Assistant Professors of the department of Economics, Swastika Borkotoky and Pinku Borhohain. The workshop concluded successfully with the active participation of around 50 students.
