TANGLA: In a bid to hone the skills of youth and promote self-reliance, a month-long practical workshop on wild bee-keeping and processing is underway at the picturesque landscape of Bhairabkunda along with the trijunction meeting point of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan in Udalguri district. The workshop, inaugurated on December 3, is hosted by ENVIS HUB, Assam in association with Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) and Green Environment Task Force (GETF), supported by the Ministry Of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

The workshop is aimed at inculcalating the wild bee-keeping skills to young minds as a part of certificate course on Value Addition and Marketing of Non - Timber Forest Products (NTFP) of animal origin with special reference to wild bee-keeping and processing under Green Skill Development Programme. Deputy Chief Executive Member of BTC Gobinda Chandra Basumatary formally inaugurated the workshop which was attended by HOD, Environment Division of ASTEC, Dr Jaideep Baruah as distinguished guest.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Baruah said that wild bee-keeping by people would contribute much to the promotion of alternative livelihood and conservation of flora and fauna. Wildlife activist-cum-district coordinator of Aryabhatta Science Centers (under ASTEC) of Udalguri Jayanta Kumar Das also attended the event as special guest. Pertinently, more than twenty five selected participants from various districts of Assam namely Udalguri, Chirang, Baksa, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Kamrup (R) etc participated in the workshop which will continue till 1st January 2022. All the participants will be awarded with certificates and bee-keeping tools after completion of the training.
