HAILAKANDI: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) held a series of programmes to mark the World against Child Labour Day in a befitting manner here on Friday. A seminar was held online on the topic 'The prevalence of child labour and its impact upon society' in which several distinguished personalities participated. Taking part in it, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Ratnadip Bhattacharjee said that various legislations are there in place to deal with the menace of child labour and that the Right to Education Act is the best way to do away with child labour.

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Yusuf Azaz said creating awareness on child labour related issues and eradicating poverty can go a long way in tackling the problem. Supervisor of District Labour Welfare Office, Alimuddin Barbhuiya said that the effective way to generate awareness on child labour is to involve the PRI members. Gulzar Laskar representing the District Child Protection Office said 38 child labourers were rescued from different establishments last year.

President, in-charge of District Child Welfare Committee, Nilotpol Deb pointed out that around 2,100 migrants along with 200 children of different age groups have had returned to the district and that there was every possibility that these children might be employed as labourers in different establishments. In this context, Deb said the district task force constituted for the purpose have a pivotal role to play in curbing child labour. Secretary, DLSA, Karuna Devi, officials of Education department and educationists took part in the online seminar. Slogan writing contest and essay competition online were also organized by DLSA among college and school students on the occasion.

Kokrajhar: The World Day against Child Labour was celebrated by NGO Nedan Foundation at Destination Girls' Home, Onthaigwlao in Kokrajhar on Saturday.

This year, the Nedan Foundation organized the day with the theme 'Child labour is no child's play' in the Destination Girls' Home campus by displaying posters to campaign against child labour and raise awareness through social media. Social distancing was strictly maintained during the programme. Three award-winning short movies on child labour and education were screened. Two team members of Childline Kokrajhar delivered a speech on social issues like child marriage, child trafficking and child labour. A member of Nedan Foundation spoke about the laws under the Indian Constitution to protect child rights.
