World AIDS Day 2018: Stress laid on spreading knowledge about HIV prevention

Dibrugarh: On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Voluntary Organization of Dibrugarh SEWA organized an awareness programme on Saturday. The event was organized in association with DHSK Commerce College at its college premises. SEWA had organized the event in an innovative way where the main attraction was a fashion show to spread the knowledge on HIV/ AIDS.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Laya Madduri, while speaking as chief guest, in her speech, emphasized spreading the knowledge of HIV prevention among common people and youths. She also thanks SEWA for organizing the event in an innovative way.

The programme was attended by founder president of SEWA, Shanti Gogoi, Principal of DHS Kanoi Commerce College, Dr K M Bhagawati, Brand Ambassador of Swachaa Bharat Mission, Assam and Principal, DHS Kanoi College, Dr Sashi Saikia and other dignitaries.

Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. World AIDS Day is an opportunity to show solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide. This year, WHO has joined global partners to commemorate World AIDS Day under the theme ‘Know Your Status’.

Earlier, the general secretary of SEWA, Altaf Hussain had declared that the organization would target maximum common people for HIV screening and massive field testing will be conducted under CBHS model, “SEWA has already adopted the community-based HIV Screening (CBHS) model and a very good response has been received from the public,” said Hussain.
