LAKHIMPUR: The need for eggs in the diet is unlimited in terms of health and nutrients required for the body. Every year, the 2nd Friday of the month of October is celebrated as World Egg Day around the world.

The event is celebrated to make people aware of the nutrients present in eggs and inform them about the benefits of its consumption in a view to fighting against malnutrition which is a global problem and the consumption of eggs could prove to be a solution to the issue.

The Day was celebrated for the first time in 1996. The theme of World Egg Day 2021 is 'Eat your Egg today and every day', which explains the importance of eggs in daily nutrition and encourages people to include eggs in their daily diet.

In connection with this, Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVSc) hosted a special three-day-long programme along with workshop from October 6 to October 8. In the workshop, different discussions were held among students, teaching faculty in details related to the importance of eggs in human health, myths and facts about egg consumption. Dr. Uma Ram Tamuli, Associate Dean of LCVSc, inaugurated the program on October 6 at the college premises.

Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Prashanta Kumar Pathak, Subject Matter Specialist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakhimpur Dipsikha Hazarika, Assistant Professors Dr. Siddhartha Shankar Pathak and Dr. Simson Soren were present as resource persons in the program which was anchored by Dr. Pallabi Thakuria.

During the three-day programme, online slogan writing competitions on eggs, egg art competitions were carried out. Associate Dean Dr. Uma Ram Tamuli lauded the organizing committee for making the event a grand success and reiterated the need for such events in the future as well. Organizing secretary Dr. Siddhartha Shankar Pathak extended the vote of thanks to all during the prize distribution ceremony.
