World Environment Day observed at many places of Golaghat through cleanliness and plantation drive

GOLAGHAT: The World Environment Day was observed at many places of Golaghat on Wednesday. Golaghat District Journalist Association (GDJA) and Hero Auto World jointly observed the day at College Road by distributing saplings to students and passer-by. Educationist Dinesh Gogoi inaugurated the event in presence of Sonaram Bharali and Rohit Gogoi, president and secretary of GDJA.

Reliance College Jr carried out a cleanliness drive at Hemchanadra Barua Idol place and planted saplings. Then a meeting was held at college premises in the presence of DFO Dimpi Bora, Dr TN Hazarika and Priyanka Saikia Das. Many saplings were planted at premises of college. Golaghat Marwadi Yuva Manch too marked the day by planting saplings at the Marwadi Shamsan Bhumi. Maheswari Mahila Sangathan jointly with Yuva Sangathan planted many trees at Golaghat Gaushala

Similarly, Don Bosco college, also observed World Environment Day under the theme ‘Beat air pollution’. The day’s programme was organized by Father Dr Policarp Xalxo in collaboration with the NSS and the Eco Club. The day was marked by plantation of saplings by staff and students and cleaning of the college surroundings.

Father Bimal Lakra, Vice-Principal, through digital presentation and song and prayer, showed how we need to care for the environment. Mukul Sarmah, Eco Club Coordinator, introduced the topic and presented the programme of the day. NSS volunteers presented the theme “Beat Air Pollution” in an attractive manner. This was followed by a prayer for the protection of the environment by Dilbar Barla. The college community took a pledge, led by Ajay Bara, to protect and nurture the environment. After this Fr Dr Policarp presented the modalities and procedures of the outdoor activity. The college authorities, staff and representatives of the students from the various departments were selected to plant trees. This was followed by clearing the jungle in the campus and protecting the plants of the campus.
