LAKHIMPUR: On the occasion of World Population Day on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan inaugurated the 'Sarathi Vahan', an awareness vehicle to promote the family planning activities among the public.

The inauguration was done in the presence of Dr Manoj Kumar Das, Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Jagadish Goswami, the Additional CM & HO(FW), Queen Barua, the SDM & HO(HQ)), District Programme Manager, District Community Mobilizer, District Media Expert, District Family Planning Coordinator, ANMs, and ASHA workers. The 'Sarathi Vahan' will travel across the Lakhimpur district and will distribute free condoms, oral pills, and leaflets to promote family planning methods.

District Family Planning Coordinator Chaitanya Bora said, "The slogan for this year's World Population Day is "Adopt family planning measures, write a new chapter of progress". The WPD was at first conducted in the first phases -- as Mobilization Fortnight (Dampatti Sampark Pakhwada) from June 27 to July 10 and the second phase- as Population Stabilization Fortnight (Jansankhya Sthirta Pakhwada) would be conducted from July 11 to July 24."

"The 'Saas Bahu Sammelan' in the Dampatti Sampark Pakhwada phase was conducted at various health institutions of the district. And in the Jansankhya Sthirta Pakhwada phase, awareness about the benefits of marriage at the right age, method of delayed pregnancy, temporary methods of family planning such as IUCD/PPIUCD/PAIUCD/Antara injection, and permanent methods such as Non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV without surgery), Laparoscopic Sterilization (LS) Minilap, Post Partum Sterilization of family planning and Sterilization services for both male and female will be provided. All the above-mentioned methods are available free of cost in the Government health facilities and beneficiaries will get monetary incentives for the same," Bora said.
