NAGAON: The World Population Day was observed in Nagaon and Hojai districts. An event was organized by Mera Yuva Bharat, a youth organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with Kolong Valley Bahumukhi Unnayan Samiti and Sonali Udyog Samiti under Udali Development Block on the occasion in Hojai district.

Events were also held at the Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha's auditorium in Nagaon and at the Moinapur Bazar Natya Chora in Hojai district respectively. The events aimed to empower young people to make informed decisions about their reproductive health and family planning.

An extempore speech competition was held among students, and a discussion session was organized on various population-related issues, including family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

At the Sadou Asom Assam Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha's auditorium, the discussion session was presided over by Khagen Chandra Nath, General Secretary of Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha. The speakers, Bhaben Bora, a retired teacher and noted Assamese poet, and Shashindra Dev Mahanta, a retired teacher and sports organizer, delivered insightful speeches on the key issues like family planning, gender equality, and human rights.

At the Moinapur Bazar Natya Chora in Hojai, the key speakers, Tankeswar Nath, a former Headmaster of Kaki Adarsha High School, and Laksheswar Hazarika, a social activist, delivered lectures on family planning, gender equality, poverty, and maternal health. The events were attended by various people, including men and women, and were successful in raising awareness about the importance of population control and reproductive health, a press note added here.
