World Tourism Day: 'Lakshyasthan Tezpur' programme held in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: As part of a two-day programme to mark World Tourism Day, organized jointly by Sonitpur district administration in association with Team Tezpur, and the Tourism and Cultural Affairs department, a meeting was held at the District Library auditorium here on Monday. Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das, SP Dr. Dhananjay Ghanawat, renowned actors Chetana Das, Sujit Sharma, senior journalists Atanu Bhuyan were present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das said that Sonitpur district, Tezpur in particular, has a rich legacy of historical, religious landmarks along with national parks and has a lot to offer to tourists coming from outside the state and said the Lakshyashtan Tezpur programme was a start of a prolonged campaign to promote tourism in Tezpur. Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava appealed to the people of Tezpur to come together to promote Tezpur as a tourism hotspot.

Keeping with the theme for this year's World Tourism Day – Tourism for Inclusive Growth – a presentation was made by DPM, ASRLM, M Alom which focused on various steps taken by the department to promote Baligaon village near Jiabharali river of Sonitpur district as a ecotourism hub by developing rural homestays by involving local Self Help Groups.
