World Tuberculosis Day observed

Tezpur: World Tuberculosis Day was observed at the premises of IMA House, Tezpur along with several other programmes held in other parts of Sonitpur district under the aegis of District Health Society, NTEP, Sonitpur.

District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Chatra Bhusan Gogoi, inaugurated an awareness rally organized on the occasion in the presence of Pankaj Kumar Nagbongshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health), Sonitpur, Dr T B Chetri, Superintendent, Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Dr. Hiranjan Saikia, District TB Officer, Sonitpur, doctors of Kanaklata Civil Hospital, students of Nursing Training School, Tezpur NGO's NTEP staff and others.

The rally was followed by a public awareness meeting at IMA Hall, Tezpur. The meeting was attended by Dr. J. Ahmed, Joint Director of Health Services, Sonitpur, Additional CM& HO, Sonitpur, and other dignitaries. The meeting started with a welcome address by Dr. Hiranjan Saikia, District TB Officer, Sonitpur. The objective of the meeting was elaborated by Prantik Orang, District PMDT-cum TB-HIV coordinator.

The DTO briefed the performance of NTEP, Sonitpur for the last two years and he also informed the house that there was a slight decline in the number of cases as in other districts of Assam, which was being addressed by conducting active case finding (ACF) programmes in several high risk areas, including tea estates of Sonitpur district.

Four TB champions were felicitated by District Health Society NTEP, Sonitpur. One of the TB Champions shared his success story of being completely cured of tuberculosis and thanked the health department and doctors for their guidance and support in helping him overcome the disease. In his presidential speech, Dr. Biman Sarma, Additional CM& HO, Sonitpur, appealed to all the sectors of the society to come forward in achieving the goal of a TB-free India by 2025 as set by the Prime Minister of India.
