NAGAON: As part of Y20 pre-event activities under G20 summit 2023, the historic Nowgong College (autonomous) organized a day-long seminar on the topic 'Climate change and disaster risk reduction: making sustainability a way of life' at the college auditorium on Thursday.
Padma Shri and the Forest Man of India, Jadav Payeng participated in the seminar as the keynote speaker while Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college, welcomed the guests as well as other invitees and attendants in the opening session of the seminar. Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutiya, coordinator to the internal quality assurance cell, initiated the seminar with a brief speech on the issues associated with climate change and its impact on mother earth and its biodiversity.
Over 500 students, research scholars and faculty members participated in the seminar and also interacted with forest man of India Jadav Payeng during the programme. Three research PhD scholars from the college presented their papers in the seminar too.
While addressing the occasion, Payeng asserted that due to the developmental works and projects, most of the rural areas have started suffering and losing a great portion of its biodiversity. Referring to the COVID-19 situation across the globe, Payeng said it has taught many lessons to relook at life and the environment where we all live in.
