
DIBRUGARH: The meteorological department has issued a Yellow Alert for Dibrugarh and other districts in Assam due to the change in weather conditions. Dense Fog is expected today in Dibrugarh, South Salmara, Dhubri, Cachar, Hailakandi, Sribhoomi, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Chirang, and Tinsukia, which may affect visibility and travel.
On January 30, Dibrugarh will remain under a Yellow Alert with forecasts predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Other districts likely to experience adverse weather include Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sri Bhoomi.
Residents in affected areas, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, are advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during severe conditions, and stay updated through official advisories from the meteorological department.
Meanwhile, earlier, the cyclonic circulation that was present over East Bangladesh and its neighborhood on Thursday shifted and lay over northeast Assam and the surrounding areas at 3.1 km above mean sea level. Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of dense fog across Assam and several northeastern states until January 27.
Low visibility due to the presence of fog disrupted flight operations at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) on Thursday. The visibility was recorded between 50 and 199 meters at isolated places across Assam.
