Dibrugarh: Recognized as Assam’s youngest writer at the age of 11, Riyad Maroof Hassan, a student of the Salt Brook School, was felicitated by Assam Book Records at an event held at DHSK College on October 30. Gracing the event, prominent litterateur Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika said that one should not restrict talent. Praising Hassan, she said that at a time when most children were preoccupied with mobile and laptop, the young student was involved in writing a novel. She, however, said that he should not get complacent here, and aspire for more success in life. Making reference to Hassan’s grandfather Hassan Sharif Ahmed – a noted literary figure who passed away recently - Deka said that the young writer was a source of pride for them, and that his grandfather, if alive, would be delighted to see such talent in him.

Receiving the award for his debut novel How We Became Magnificent, Hassan, who is currently writing two more novels, said that he had been fond of reading from a young age. Member of Assam Book Records, Mayuri Sharma also expressed her happiness at being able to fete Hassan for his commendable feat. Hassan is a resident of Amolapatty and son of Hassan Ikbal Ahmed and Syeda Mashuda Rahman.
