LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the Hindu Youth Council alleged a scam on the supply of subsidized urea to the farmers. In this connection, the organization submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma demanding a probe into the matter.

In the memorandum, the organization said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had adopted all kinds of policies for the benefit of the farmers and made subsidized urea easily available to them. "Despite such circumstances, we came to know from the farmers that there was a shortage of fertilizer in Lakhimpur district in the past years," the president and the secretary said in the memorandum.

The memorandum further said that the wholesalers of fertilizer in Lakhimpur district had not provided them the information about the distribution of fertilizer in Lakhimpur district responding to their RTI application despite the letter issued by the District Agriculture Officer vide No. DAO/LAK/RTI/57/2022-23 dated June 7, 2022 in this regard. According to the organization, the small scale tea planters, and the farmers of mustard, nursery, paddy and Ravi crops of Lakhimpur did not get a single kilogram of fertilizer at the cost of Rs. 5.91 from the fertilizer amounting to 2024 metric tons, which was supplied to the district in 2021.
