LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Youth Congress Committee (LDYCC) demanded the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State to provide employment to the unemployed youths of the State and to those who have already lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic situation and the lockdown which was subsequently enforced to contain the contagion of the pandemic.

The organization raised the demand by convening a press meet at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday. Addressing the media persons, LDYCC president Ananda Narah said that the unemployment problem had posed as an alarming threat, not only to the State economy but of the nation because of the lack of adequate opportunities for engagement of the numerous unemployed youths.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown situation, several lakhs of working people have lost their jobs. The BJP-led governments at the Centre in the State have still not taken any effective policies to engage them for their welfare. Further, the policies adopted by the Prime Minister Modi-led government in order to privatize the airports, Railway Department and BSNL have also affected the job security of many employees working in the departments and agencies concerned. Though the BJP, before the parliamentary election, promised to engage two crore unemployed youths every year, the party could not keep this promise after it came to power. Similarly, the State BJP, which also promised to engage 2 lakh youths every year, has also failed to keep its promise after it formed the government," said the LDYCC president while criticizing the State and Union governments in strong terms regarding the issues.

On the other hand, Mahim Payeng, the vice-president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (APYCC), while addressing the press meet, said that the BJP-led Union Government had created many unemployed youths during the past years instead of engaging them.

"This government has pushed the national economy towards downfall without taking any requisite step to mitigate the unemployment problem and initiating the demonetization move without any plan," he added. In this connection, APYCC secretary Parash Mudoi and media cell coordinator Jintu Hazarika also slammed the State and Union governments regarding the issues.

In the press meet, the APYCC vice-president and LDYCC president declared that the Youth Congress had already launched a nationwide campaign titled as 'Rozgar Do', demanding employment of the unemployed youths. In the meantime, the campaign has been launched in Lakhimpur district too. The organization will initiate a digital protest against the BJP-led governments regarding the alleged failure of both governments with regard to addressing the burning unemployment problem.
