DIGBOI: A significant chapter in the promotion of Nepali language and literature in Assam unfolded in Digboi on Thursday with the unveiling of the 'Madhyamik Nepali Shabdakosh', a landmark literary work aimed at strengthening the academic foundation of the language among students and younger generations.
The dictionary was unveiled at the auditorium of Sri Sri Nepali Bishnu Mandir during a programme jointly organised by the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) and Sri Sri Nepali Bishnu Mandir Samity to mark the 35th Language Recognition Day. The event brought together prominent litterateurs, educationists, community leaders and representatives of Nepali and Gorkha organisations.
Edited by noted Nepali litterateur Yuddhabir Rana and published by the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, the Madhyamik Nepali Shabdakosh had earlier been launched at the national level in Sikkim on July 7 by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang during the celebrations associated with the 212th Bhanu Jayanti. Its subsequent unveiling in Digboi marked an important literary milestone for the Nepali-speaking community of Assam.
The dictionary is expected to provide an important reference resource for students, teachers and readers and contribute towards strengthening Nepali-language education and literary activities in the State. Participants described its Assam-level release as a significant step towards creating stronger academic and literary resources for future generations.
