Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee Meeting Held At RARS

LAKHIMPUR: The 53rd Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee (ZREAC) meeting of North Bank Plain Zone (NBPZ) in Assam was held on Saturday at the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Assam Agriculture University, North Lakhimpur.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor-in-charge of Assam Agriculture University, Dr. Ashok Bhattacharya. In his speech, Dr Bhattacharya explained the importance of the meeting and appealed to all to highlight the issues of research during the forthcoming Ravi crop season. RARS Chief Scientist Dr. Prabal Kumar Saikia explained the objective of the event and delivered the welcome address. Director of Extention Education of AAU, Dr. Prasnna Kumar Pathok delivered an elaborated lecture in connection with the subject matters of meeting.

In the same programme, Dr. Ashok Bhattacharya released an informative book on birds titled Amar Gaonphura Charaibor (Birds visiting our villages), authored by Dr. Prabal Kumar Saikia. Participating in the programme, the founder director of Natures Beckon, Soumyadweep Dutta, the publisher of the book, delivered a reviewing lecture appreciating the newly-released book and called upon all who were involved with the agriculture sector to protect the environmental-friendly and useful birds.

In addition, several extension journals and monthly leaflets published by the RARS were also released in the programme. Associate Dean of Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVS), Dr. Uma Ram Tamuli and Dhemaji District Agriculture Officer Triranga Bharatiya Baruah took part in the inaugural session of the event.

On the other hand, the professors of LCVS, scientists of RARS, the heads, senior scientists, subject matter specialists of the KVKs of Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts under NBPZ and the progressive farmers of these districts took part in the technical session where problems faced by the farmers issues of research works were discussed in details.
