Zubeen Garg apologizes for controversial statement against Brahmins, written apology sought

Zubeen Garg, the noted and most popular singer of the state, lately created a lot of issued and controversies for his controversial statement made on the Brahmin community. Reportedly, the singer had said derogatory words about the Brahmins in a cultural event which created quite a rage amongst the Brahmins. The event was held at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) auditorium on Friday night.

The outcome was that several cases of defamation were lodged against Zubeen Garg across the state by several people. Speaking on the matter of complaints registered against Zubeen, a police officer of the Guwahati city said several cases under several sections of the IPC were lodged against him for his hateful comment instigating the Brahmins of the state.

As Zubeen at present is associated with the promotion of his upcoming movie 'Kanchenjunga', he was taking part in a cultural event in the city and ended up saying offensive things about the race of the Hindu religion.

Following the massive protest against the remark made by him and apology demands coming from across the state, Zubeen Garg sought an apology on Monday. He said, "I believe that there should be no high caste or low caste. But while trying to voice the same, I used the term Brahmins. I would like to apologize to the Brahmin community for the unintentional slip on my part."

He also added that he being the son of a Brahmin, he did not mean to say bad about the caste. However, it all happened in the midst of fun moments and due to the slip of his tongue.

The latest update on this story is that despite Zubeen Garg seeking apology from the Brahmin people, the complainants are not ready to settle the issue and are seeking a written apology.
