Assam Rifles recovers illegal areca nuts in Mizoram

MIZORAM: Assam Rifles recovered 25 bags (1625 kg) of areca nuts worth Rs 19,07,750 along with one Bolero Pickup vehicle with registration number MZ 01 V 0928 in General Area Zokhawsang and apprehended one individual on March 31. The recovered consignment and apprehended individual were handed over to the Customs Department, Aizawl, on March 31 for further legal proceedings.

Also to be mentioned is that the Serchhip Battalion, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 128 bags of illegal areca nuts worth Rs. 71.68 lakh on March 31 and 150 bags of illegal areca nuts worth Rs. 84 lakh on April 1 in the general area of Tlangsam, Champhai district. The approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 1.55 crore. The seized consignment was handed over to the Customs Department in Champhai on March 31 and April 1 for further legal proceedings, stated a press release.
