Bihu & cultural shows brought under GST's purview; artistes need to pay 18% of all payment

GUWAHATI: Bihu stage shows, as well as cultural stage shows, will now come under the purview of the GST Act.

Regarding the inclusion of cultural shows under GST, a decision was taken in 2017. It was however not implemented.

From now on, Bihu artistes will have to receive cheque payments from committees and organizers. They will then have to pay 18 percent of their payments as GST.

The Goods and Service Tax Act passed in the Parliament in 2017 is an indirect tax on the supply of goods and services. GST was brought in with an aim to bring uniform tax structure throughout the country and to get rid of indirect taxes.
